With a motto that states ‘Going from Suck to Unsuck,' Pixar is undoubtedly one of the greatest animation studios to date. They've produced some fantastic films, both long and short, but what does it take? What really goes on behind those doors? How does an idea become a full-fledged production, and how can that process be applied to you? At Behind the Keyframes: Producing at Pixar, Duke & Duck Senior Producer Mike Capbarat will provide a peek behind the curtain based on his 12 years at Pixar. From getting the job to his experience on films like Monster's University, Ratatouille, and Burrow, join us as we walk through what makes Pixar so great.
If you haven't already, check out Pixar's newly released 2D animated short: Burrow!
(Hint: Mike produced it!)
About the Speaker:
Mike grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, splitting his time between drawing, writing stories, and playing baseball. After graduating from UC Berkeley in 2008 (and, more importantly, meeting his wife there!), Mike landed a temp position at Pixar which would ultimately lead to an interview for a P.A. role. He spent the next 12 years working in Production on Monsters University, Coco, Incredibles 2, Toy Story 4, and most recently, Burrow. He worked in several departments, but spent most of his time in the Story Department where he learned the in’s and out’s of story structure, character development, and visual storytelling.
In 2019, Mike’s wife, Emily, graduated from Med School and matched for her OBGYN residency at G.W. The pair moved out to D.C. where Mike met Duke & Duck, and the rest is history.
